An original color lithograph titled “Bières De La Meuse” Art Nouveau artist Alphonse Mucha. Printed in 1897, Imp. F. Champenois, Paris. “Republique Francaise” stamp marking top middle. References: Mucha/Art Nouveau, 23; Rennert/Weill, 27; Ormiston, 65; Mucha Foundation, Prague. An iconic artwork commissioned to promote the breweries of the Meuse River Valley. The composition depicts a woman with a wreath of poppies. She has wheat and hops in her wild tendrils of hair, and she holds a pint of beer. The merry beer drinker has Slav features which is reminiscent to the figure of “Summer” from Mucha's “Seasons” series of the previous year. The bottom of the artwork incorporates two images in greyscale – an image of the goddess of the river Meuse and a bird’s eye view of the brewery. The use of feminine motifs and flowing lines found in nature are characteristic of Mucha’s influence in the Art Nouveau period. Posthumous Mucha artworks are frequent in the open market, but this is a unique opportunity to own a rare Art Nouveau lithograph printed in the artist’s lifetime. From a private collection. Dimensions: 71.5”h x 51.5”w x 2”d (framed) / 58 5/8” h x 41”w (print dimensions). In very good condition consistent with age.
Alphonse Mucha (1860-1939) was a Czech painter, illustrator, and graphic artist. Living in Paris during the Art Nouveau period, he was widely known for his distinctly stylized and decorative theatrical posters, particularly those of Sarah Bernhardt. He produced illustrations, advertisements, decorative panels, as well as designs, which became among the best-known images of the period. In 1998, The Mucha Museum opened in Prague which is dedicated to the artist and his legacy. Today, the artist’s works are included in the collections of the Art Institute of Chicago, the Musée d’Orsay in Paris, and The Museum of Modern Art in New York, among others.

In most cases parcels are shipped out in 1-3 days and delivered in 3-5 days. Freight deliveries can take anywhere from 1-10 weeks depending on location. We have freight shipments delivered to the East Coast every 1-2 weeks, and to the West Coast every 3- 5 weeks. All delivery dates provided by us are estimates, and all freight deliveries are fulfilled by third party companies. The shipping company we book your delivery with will contact you directly to schedule delivery.
While damage in transit is rare, if you receive a damaged item, please retain all packing materials and notify us as soon as possible. We would be happy to facilitate an insurance claim to reimburse you for the cost of repair; or to accept a return for a full refund.
