Full condition report available upon request.Elizabeth Murray (1940–2007) was a leading figure in postwar American painting, known for expanding the language of abstraction through shaped canvases and dynamic, cartoon-inflected forms. She received a BFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and an MFA from Mills College. Murray represented the United States at the 41st Venice Biennale in 1984 and was the subject of a major mid-career retrospective organized by The Museum of Modern Art, New York, in 2006—the first retrospective at MoMA dedicated to a living female artist. She was awarded a MacArthur Foundation Fellowship in 1999 and was elected to the American Academy of Arts and Letters. Her work is held in major museum collections worldwide, including The Museum of Modern Art, the Whitney Museum of American Art, and the Art Institute of Chicago.
