The design features dramatic circular side supports balanced by clean horizontal lines, reflecting the machine-age aesthetics associated with Art Deco and early modernist furniture design of the 1930s. Hoffmann, a noted designer connected to the Bauhaus movement and son of Josef Hoffmann, became known for his innovative use of bent tubular steel inspired by industrial materials and modern functionality.
