A vintage pair of Gilbert Rohde for Troy Sunshade Company art deco lounge chairs. This amazing vintage set is designed by Gilbert Rohde, and produced sometime in the 1930s. Rohde was a pioneer of modern design, setting the stage for the future of mid century modern design and art. These chairs are manufactured by the Troy Sunshade Company, a common producer of early Gilbert Rohde designs. These chairs feature a tubular chrome frame design with upholstered arm cushions. The frame supports a plush seat cushion with a matching back cushion. Both cushions are fully independent and removable. Each cushion is upholstered in a cream/off-white vinyl material with black piping around the edges. Both chairs are in good vintage condition for their age. They measure 39 inches tall, 23.25 inches wide, and 30 inches deep. They have a seat height of 18 inches, a seat depth of 16 inches, a seat width of 18 inches, an arm height of 8.5 inches, and a back height of 22 inches.Gilbert Rohde (1894-1944) was a pioneering American industrial designer who played a crucial role in shaping modern furniture design in the United States. Best known for his transformative work with Herman Miller in the 1930s and early 1940s, Rohde moved American design away from traditional revival styles toward streamlined, functional modernism influenced by the Bauhaus and European avant-garde.
