Pair of Chinese Yellow Ground Covered Porcelain Boxes with Blue Sage Figure
Pair of vintage Chinese covered porcelain boxes featuring a vivid yellow ground decorated with cobalt blue figures of sages and scholars in flowing robes. Each lidded circular form is accented with stylized cloud motifs and traditional figural imagery rendered in contrasting blue enamel against the bright monochromatic glaze. The domed covers terminate in small knop finials, while the continuous narrative decoration reflects motifs commonly associated with Chinese scholar objects and export porcelain traditions. Decorative and highly displayable, the pair combines bold color with classical East Asian iconography. Provenance: From a private collection in Birmingham, Michigan.
