Meighton Jackson - Exile, 2020s Signed Original Mixed Media Painting on Canvas

An original mixed-media painting on canvas titled "Exile" by American contemporary artist Meighton Jackson. Signed by the artist in the lower right, with an additional signature and title inscribed on the reverse.

The composition features two abstracted, elongated forms in deep blue and yellow, set against a neutral background with gestural black ink lines and layered paper elements. The contrasting colors and overlapping shapes create a sense of movement and spatial depth, while areas of textured paper introduce variations in surface and pattern. The work reflects Jackson's characteristic approach to abstraction, combining drawing, collage, and layered colored papers to explore the relationship between line, color, and form. Her process involves applying layers of paper over drawn compositions and selectively cutting back the surfaces to reveal underlying lines and textures, creating a balance between spontaneous gestures and structured forms.

Provenance: From a private collection. Dimensions: 60.25"h x 38.25"w x 3"d. In very good condition.

Artist Bio: Meighton Jackson is an American contemporary mixed-media artist raised in Dayton, Ohio, whose artistic practice developed in Detroit during the late 1960s. Her work focuses on abstract compositions incorporating gestural linework, geometric forms, and layered colored papers. Influenced by the cultural and artistic movements of the 1960s, Jackson developed a process combining drawing, collage, and surface manipulation, using paper rather than traditional paint as her primary source of color. Her work explores the interaction between expressive mark-making, materiality, and abstraction, with an emphasis on line as the foundation of her compositions.
