A modern etching with color aquatint on Japon nacré paper titled “Le Pierrot” by Marc Chagall. Hand signed in pencil on the lower right with an annotation of 50/50 on the lower left. Published by Gerald Cramer, Geneva in 1968. The composition features Chagall’s characteristic circus imagery, with a central Pierrot figure surrounded by acrobats, a horse, musicians, an angel, and loosely sketched spectators. Fine black etched lines are accented with selective hand-applied-looking colors in yellow, blue, green, red, and violet. The work is collectible as a signed, limited-edition Chagall print on a desirable specialty paper, combining his well-known theatrical/circus subject matter with strong graphic linework. From a private collection; previously acquired through Christie’s London in 1991. Dimensions: 42”h x 33.75”w x 2”d (framed). In very good condition. Full condition report available upon request. Marc Chagall (1887-1985) was one of the most celebrated artists of the 20th century, internationally recognized for his dreamlike imagery and masterful work across painting, printmaking, stained glass, ceramics, and stage design. Born in Vitebsk, Belarus, he became a leading figure of modern art in Paris and exhibited worldwide throughout a career spanning more than seven decades. Chagall received major public commissions including the ceiling of the Paris Opera, stained-glass windows for the United Nations, Jerusalem’s Hadassah Medical Center, and cathedrals in Europe. His works are held in premier museum collections globally, including the Louvre, Museum of Modern Art, Tate, and Centre Pompidou. In 1977, France honored him as a Grand Officer of the Legion of Honor, affirming his status as one of the era’s most important and beloved artists.
