Herbert Bayer (1900–1985) was an Austrian-American artist, designer, and one of the most influential figures of the Bauhaus movement. A student and later master at the Bauhaus under Walter Gropius, Bayer helped redefine modern graphic design, typography, photography, painting, and exhibition design. After emigrating to the United States, he became a leading voice in modernist art and design, creating major commissions for corporations and cultural institutions. His work is held in the collections of the Museum of Modern Art, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Art Institute of Chicago, the Whitney Museum of American Art, and the Bauhaus Archive, cementing his legacy as one of the foremost innovators of twentieth-century visual culture.
