Description
This iconic archival print by legendary fashion photographer Guy Bourdin captures a surreal and cinematic moment from Vogue Paris, December 1976. Set amid a dramatic sea of black umbrellas, the composition reveals only a single, striking blue eye—partially obscured yet piercing through the darkness. The play of light on the textured umbrella surfaces contrasts sharply with the hidden yet vividly made-up face, embodying Bourdin’s masterful use of mystery, glamour, and voyeuristic allure; it showcases Bourdin's signature narrative style and his ability to transform fashion photography into high-concept art. From a private collection. Dimensions: 29"h x 39.5"w x 2"d (framed). In very good condition.
Guy Bourdin (1928–1991) was a pioneering French fashion photographer best known for his provocative, stylized imagery and boundary-pushing narratives. A longtime contributor to Vogue Paris and a collaborator with fashion houses like Chanel and Charles Jourdan, Bourdin redefined the genre with bold compositions that were often surreal, erotic, and psychologically charged. His photographs emphasized storytelling over product, challenging traditional norms of commercial photography. Today, his work is celebrated in major retrospectives and museum collections worldwide, including the Victoria and Albert Museum in London and the Museum of Modern Art in New York.
