George Nelson & Associates for Herman Miller 7 Bay CSS Unit w/ Clock & Barometer

A 7 bay George Nelson & Associates CSS wall unit. This is a classic and rare example of the notoriously beautiful and functional CSS wall unit. The CSS was first introduced by Nelson through Herman Miller in 1959. On the backs of a booming post-war economy, Nelson introduced a modular system for the home and office to display and arrange the increasingly many objects obtained by consumers. This robust system was standardized for manufacturing using a specific set of materials and blueprints, yet personalized to the consumer's needs whether that be in their home living rooms or working office bookshelves. The CSS was certainly not the first wall unit, but it created a blueprint of quality and design elements that made their way into countless productions after. This particular CSS unit is circa early 1960s. It features so many bells and whistles which are desirable on their own, but altogether, make for a truly extraordinary and rare set. This set features a full 7 bays with a corner upright, shelves, drawers, storage units, record and magazine racks, a lighted literature display, two drop down desks, and the ultra-rare control unit. The control unit features a combination clock, barometer, and speaker & switch panel. This component is extremely sought after and hard to come by. Additionally, a handful of other parts and pieces are includes, including an extra set of uprights.Overall, this set is in very good vintage condition. The wood and metal pieces are are in wonderful vintage condition. There are some issues with wiring, and many pieces may need to be rewired.
