A postmodern “Mies” lounge chair designed by Archizoom Associati for Poltronova Italy, 1969. Pine, rubber, and canvas. A rare and iconic piece of Radical Italian design, the chair is composed of a sharply angled pinewood frame supporting a rubber sling seat and paired with a minimalist cushion. It exemplifies Archizoom’s conceptual challenge to modernist norms, merging irony, function, and stripped-down aesthetics. Part of the groundbreaking Radical Design movement, the Mies Lounge was created as a critique of rationalist architecture—its name a tongue-in-cheek nod to Mies van der Rohe. The chair has been featured in design exhibitions such as Superarchitecture and is held in the permanent collections of institutions including the Centre Pompidou and the Triennale Design Museum.
