Be it confess’d to her whose gentle dews my thrist allay.” Unsigned edition of 2900. Cataloged in Dali Illustrator, pg. 168. In 1950 to celebrate the 700th anniversary of the birth of Dante, the Italian government commissioned Salvador Dali to illustrate one of the most important works of Italian literature, Dante's ""Divine Comedy."" Between 1951-1960, Dali painted 100 watercolors in preparation for the publication of The Divine Comedy. In 1963, the artworks were released in woodcut limited edition prints.
