A contemporary photorealist offset lithograph on paper titled “Helene’s Florist” by Richard Estes. The painting was created in 1971. A desolate composition of a floral shop with no people in sight, although captured in a bustling city. Este’s paintings celebrate the visual complexity of the urban environment, whereas everything evolved, especially in that era. Dimensions: 18”h x 26.75”w x .75”d (framed). There is some indication of fading but overall, the print is in good vintage condition.
Richard Estes (1932- ) is an American artist, best known for his photorealist paintings. The paintings generally consist of reflective, clean, and inanimate city and geometric landscapes. He is regarded as one of the founders of the international photo-realist movement of the late 1960s, with such painters as John Baeder, Chuck Close, Robert Cottingham, Audrey Flack, Ralph Goings, and Duane Hanson. Estes is represented in several leading public collections, including the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Museum of Modern Art, the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, the Whitney Museum of American Art, the National Gallery of Art, the Smithsonian American Art Museum, The Art Institute of Chicago, the Cleveland Museum of Art, and the Detroit Institute of Arts.
