Description
A striking example of Susan Derges' experimental approach to photographic imagery, "Untitled (Eye) No. 1 (1991)" captures suspended droplets of water in sharp focus against the blurred backdrop of a human eye. The surreal juxtaposition between clarity and distortion creates a sense of both intimacy and abstraction, central to Derges' exploration of perception, reflection, and the act of seeing. Known for her pioneering work in camera-less photography, Derges often merges art and science to investigate natural phenomena. This gelatin silver print embodies her innovative use of light and liquid as both subject and medium, inviting viewers to contemplate the fragile boundary between observer and observed. Presented in a minimalist frame, this evocative black-and-white composition exemplifies Derges' mastery of visual poetry through technical precision and conceptual depth. From a private collection. Dimensions: 33.5"h x 35.5"w x 1"d (framed). In very good condition. Full condition reports available upon request.
