Description

A contemporary relief print on handmade paper titled "Gathering Storm" by contemporary artist Jean Juhlin. Hand signed in pencil on the lower right and dated 1985 with an annotation of 4/15 on the lower left. The monochromatic composition relies on texture and sculptural depth to convey emotion and motion without the use of color. The tactile quality of the medium emphasizes the ethereal presence of the central figure, invoking themes of resilience, mystery, and quiet power. A compelling example of contemporary printmaking that bridges the line between sculpture and drawing.

From a private collection. Dimensions: 31.5"h x 25.5"w x 4"d (framed). In very good vintage condition. Full condition reports are available upon request.

Jean Juhlin (1931- ) is a respected American sculptor and printmaker known for her abstract Native American-inspired figures and embossed paper reliefs. Introduced to sculpture at age ten at the Art Institute of Chicago, she transitioned from portraiture to abstracted Native forms in her early thirties following a period of illness. Juhlin studied both in Chicago and Mexico - drawing deep inspiration from indigenous cultures - which influenced her signature sculptural style. Her work has been exhibited at notable galleries including Ray Tracey Gallery (Santa Fe), El Prado Gallery (Sedona), Miller Gallery (Cincinnati), and the Other Side Gallery in Pier, Michigan.
