A contemporary Japanese Samurai limited edition print on paper titled “Spirit of Musashi” by Hisashi Otsuka. Signed lower left with an annotation on the lower right. Published circa 2000s. The composition captures the legendary Japanese swordsman Miyamoto Musashi in an elegant and poised combat stance. Executed with Otsuka’s hallmark precision and stylized blend of traditional ukiyo-e techniques with contemporary flair, the samurai is rendered in rich, patterned garments and expressive linework. The piece reflects Otsuka’s lifelong reverence for Bushido and the spiritual power of the warrior ethos. A striking example of modern Japanese printmaking with classical themes.

Hisashi Otsuka (1947- ) is a celebrated Japanese-American artist known for blending traditional Japanese art forms, such as ukiyo-e and sumi-e, with bold, contemporary aesthetics. Born in Tokyo, Otsuka began his career as a textile designer before transitioning into fine art under the mentorship of master artist Hiroshi Yoshida. His work often focuses on samurai, geisha, and mythological figures, emphasizing themes of discipline, honor, and beauty. Otsuka has exhibited internationally, with major showings in Japan, the United States, and Europe. His works are included in notable private and institutional collections, and he has received acclaim for revitalizing Japanese warrior iconography for a modern audience. Hisashi Otsuka’s paintings and prints are known for their vibrant color, precision, and deep cultural symbolism, making him one of the most respected figures in contemporary Japanese art.

In most cases parcels are shipped out in 1-3 days and delivered in 3-5 days. Freight deliveries can take anywhere from 1-10 weeks depending on location. We have freight shipments delivered to the East Coast every 1-2 weeks, and to the West Coast every 3- 5 weeks. All delivery dates provided by us are estimates, and all freight deliveries are fulfilled by third party companies. The shipping company we book your delivery with will contact you directly to schedule delivery.
While damage in transit is rare, if you receive a damaged item, please retain all packing materials and notify us as soon as possible. We would be happy to facilitate an insurance claim to reimburse you for the cost of repair; or to accept a return for a full refund.
