A modern lithograph on paper titled "Yellow Jack" by Gene Davis. Hand signed in pencil on the lower right with an annotation of 233/250 on the lower right. Published in 1979. Known for his role in the Washington Color School, this composition lively interplay of vertical stripes in muted and warm tones, framed by a textured yellow border punctuated with playful geometric accents in black, pink, and gold. The artwork achieves both structure and spontaneity, reflecting the artist’s masterful balance of precision and improvisation. A vibrant example of Davis’s late-career abstraction. From a private collection. Dimensions: 26.25 inches tall, 28.75 inches wide, and 1 inch deep (framed). In very good vintage condition. 

Gene Davis (1920–1985) was a leading figure of the Washington Color School and a pioneer of Color Field painting. He is best known for his iconic vertical stripe compositions, which explored rhythm, color, and optical effects. Davis’s work is included in the permanent collections of major institutions such as the Smithsonian American Art Museum, the Whitney Museum of American Art, and the Museum of Modern Art. He represented the U.S. at the Venice Biennale in 1966 and received a National Endowment for the Arts grant in 1970. His legacy includes one of the world’s largest paintings, Franklin’s Footpath, created in 1972 on the streets of Philadelphia.

We have freight shipments delivered to the East Coast every 1-2 weeks, and to the West Coast every 3- 5 weeks. All delivery dates provided by us are estimates, and all freight deliveries are fulfilled by third party companies. The shipping company we book your delivery with will contact you directly to schedule delivery.

While damage in transit is rare, if you receive a damaged item, please retain all packing materials and notify us as soon as possible. We would be happy to facilitate an insurance claim to reimburse you for the cost of repair; or to accept a return for a full refund.
