Damian Priour (1949–2014) was a highly regarded sculptor and glass artist celebrated for his contributions to contemporary art and cultural philanthropy, particularly in Texas. He founded Priour Studio in 1984 and gained national recognition for his postmodern sculptures combining glass, stone, and architectural form. Priour was named the Texas Commission on the Arts’ State Three-Dimensional Artist in 2008 and was inducted into the Austin Arts Hall of Fame in 2009, reflecting both his artistic excellence and civic impact. Beyond his studio practice, Priour played a significant role in the arts community, serving on the boards of the Austin Museum of Art, Ballet Austin, and the Umlauf Sculpture Garden & Museum, and co-founding the Austin Visual Arts Association. His acclaimed Texas Chair Project, later expanded into the Global Chair Project, brought together artists worldwide to support cultural, environmental, and health-related causes.
