Oil painting depicting waves breaking against a rocky shoreline under an open sky by Russian artist Aleksei Vasilievich Von Hanzen. Signed lower right. The composition features textured rock formations in the foreground and midground, with whitecaps and seabirds visible along the horizon. Executed in a naturalistic style with attention to light and movement in the water. Aleksei von Hanzen was known for his maritime subjects, and works of this type are representative of his coastal seascapes and remain of interest to collectors of early 20th-century marine painting.From a private collection in Metro Detroit. Dimension: 21.25”h x 26.5”w x 2”d (framed). In good condition consistent with age, with surface wear and minor craquelure visible. No major flaking, tears, or repairs observed. Full condition reports available upon request.Aleksei Vasilievich von Hanzen (1876–1937) was a Russian marine painter recognized for his seascapes and naval subjects. He studied at the Imperial Academy of Arts in St. Petersburg and later in Europe, and was awarded the title of Academician by the Imperial Academy. Von Hanzen exhibited widely in Russia and internationally, and his works were acquired by members of the Russian Imperial family as well as prominent collectors. His paintings are held in museum collections including the State Russian Museum and other regional institutions.
