Description
A modernist bronze sculpture by Richard Rosenblum, created during the 1970s. Etched signature along the base with an annotation of 3/10. From a private collection. Dimensions: 10.75"h x 4"w x 7"d. In very good condition.
This small-scale work depicts an abstracted reclining figure with gestural, organic modeling that conveys both physical weight and emotional resonance. The form’s expressive surface and anatomical distortion reflect Rosenblum’s early exploration of the human condition through modernist abstraction, a theme that would later inform his acclaimed natural and figurative bronze works. Resting on a solid stone base, the piece captures the artist’s mastery of form, texture, and material presence.
Richard Rosenblum (American, 1949–2000) was a celebrated sculptor and collector known for his poetic bronze works that bridged Eastern philosophy and Western modernism. A Harvard-trained artist, Rosenblum’s sculptures have been exhibited in major museums, including the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, and are held in prominent public and private collections worldwide. His acclaimed series of natural and figurative bronzes earned him recognition for transforming organic forms—such as gnarled roots and stones—into contemplative, human-like figures. In addition to his artistic practice, Rosenblum was a noted Asian art collector; his collection was later exhibited at the Asia Society in New York and published in the influential volume Art of the Natural World: Resonances of Nature in Chinese Art.
