Description
A modern serigraph in colors on paper titled "Crab Nebular Man" by Peter Max. Hand signed in pencil and dated 1971 on the lower right with an International Proof VII annotation on the lower left. From a private collection. Dimensions: 25.5"h x 33"w x .75"d (framed). In very good condition.
A quintessential example of Peter Max’s psychedelic Pop Art style from the early 1970s, Crab Nebular Man depicts a futuristic, winged figure rendered in bold, vibrant hues of orange, green, pink, and blue against a neutral ground. The composition radiates Max’s cosmic and countercultural sensibility, blending surrealism and celestial imagery with fluid, graphic outlines. The figure’s wing-like extensions and surrounding planetary forms evoke themes of space exploration and transcendence—hallmarks of Max’s “Cosmic” period.
