Model 72 side chair designed by Eero Saarinen for Knoll. Retains original Knoll Associates label beneath the seat. The chair features a molded plywood backrest with a separate upholstered seat cushion in the original Knoll blue-green fabric. It is supported by four tapered wooden legs. Introduced in 1948, this model reflects Saarinen’s early furniture designs for Knoll, emphasizing organic form and simplified construction. An opportunity for collectors of mid-century modern design to own an early Knoll production with the original upholstery and label.From a private collection. Proceeds of sale support Cranbrook Art Museum. Dimensions: 30.75”h x 21.5”w x 19”d x 17”seat height x 20”seat width x 17.5”seat depth x 18”back height. Structure of the chair is in very good condition, with a few surface scratches consistent with age and use. The seat would benefit from new foam. The original upholstery remains present and is in fair condition, showing wear consistent with age. Full condition reports available upon request.
