Description
A contemporary gelatin silver print Untitled #831 (Monks III), 1992 by artist Petah Coyne. Captured in late autumn in the mountains of Koyasan, Japan, this atmospheric photograph depicts a group of Buddhist monks emerging from the forest during their afternoon prayers. Moving in quiet formation from one place to another, they remain immersed in continuous devotion. Coyne's use of a long exposure softens their outlines into ghostly, fluid forms, visually translating the shared energy and spiritual unity of the moment. The resulting image blurs the boundary between documentation and abstraction, evoking both the physical presence and the meditative essence of the monks' ritual.
From a private estate in Birmingham, MI. Additional Provenance: Vaknin Schwartz Gallery, Atlanta, GA. Original gallery tag on verso. Dimensions: 25"h x 34.5"w x 1.5"d (framed). In very good vintage condition. Full condition reports are available upon request.
