An iconic gelatin silver print on paper titled “Joan Miro, Paloma, Mallorca 1979” by American artist Arnold Newman. Hand signed in pencil on the bottom right and titled bottom right. An enduring photograph of an elderly Miro at 86 years old. Arguably one of the most famous artists in the Modern art movement, he is portrayed looking directly at the viewer with a slight smirk. His hand rests on his chin as if he was in contemplation. Placed in front of one of his monumental paintings, it creates a dynamic composition and gives a sensation that Miro is one with the painting. From a private collection. Dimensions: 28.25”h x 22.25”w x 1”d (framed). In excellent condition. Arnold Newman (1918-2006) was an American photographer, noted for his "environmental portraits" of artists and politicians. He was also known for his carefully composed abstract still life images. In 2006, he was inducted into the International Photography Hall of Fame and Museum. Newman photographed well-known celebrities, including Marlene Dietrich, John F. Kennedy, Harry S. Truman, Piet Mondrian, Pablo Picasso, Arthur Miller, Marilyn Monroe, Ronald Reagan, Mickey Mantle, and Audrey Hepburn. However, he maintained that even if the subject is not known, or is already forgotten, the photograph itself must still excite and interest the viewer. His photographs can be found in countless private and public institutions.
