Hand signed in pencil on the bottom right and dated 1991 with an annotation of 15\/35 on the bottom left. In this series, the artist took ordinary objects from the real world and carefully reconceived them as flat, abstracted compositions, a visual shorthand that called attention to elemental shapes and forms. The artist carved into linoleum and wood blocks, cutting away everything but the image area which remained in high relief. Although the composition seems simplistic, several blocks were used for each print. Spence has been identified as an artistic maverick. He is greatly influenced by the Minimalist movement with the repetition of simple forms and Pop Art with the usage of bright, pleasing colors. He also has been compared to Marcel Duchamp who also used everyday objects with his \"ready-mades\" and calling them \"art.\" Spence's paintings and prints are included in many important museums, among them the Walker Art Center, Minneapolis; the Cleveland Museum of Art; the Carnegie Museum of Art, Pittsburgh; and in New York, the Museum of Modern Art, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, and the Whitney Museum of Art. From a private collection. Dimensions: 30.75\"h x 21.75\"w x 1.75\"d (framed).
